Siren Corp - Sci-Fi 60s Retrofuture Environment

I wanted to challenge myself with a space scene, but then I got really into the retrofuturism movement and thought mermaids should be in space more often. It was quite difficult combining minimalism with space, and I hope I did it justice! I lit a daytime and nighttime scene and had fun playing around and fleshing out the fictional world full of SPACE MERMAIDS.

Made with UE4, Blender, Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter, Megascans and Mixer.

Door texture provided by the lovely Nicholas Wheeler! 💜

Here's a video overview I made. Hope you enjoy!

For the cloth, I used Blender's cloth sim and then exported out the mesh at the frame I desired, after tweaking it a bit with sculpting tools.

Here's most of the props I made! The smaller props are one material, all on one UV. The larger props are spread over 2 UVs.

I utilised MaterialParameterCollection and colour accent masks I made through substance painter, to enable you to transform the accent colour to whatever you want in UE4. This would enable me to make whatever themed rooms I desired, for any future project

Here's the same prop in marmoset. (It seems to have uploaded/compressed a bit poorly on marmoset, so I apologise for the bad texture quality)

It was fun combining the smaller props onto larger structures to add more details.

Logo development progress. I wanted my scene to feel authentic, even though there was a lot of overlapping themes. I looked at 60s and 70s logos, and some of my favourite artists.

The environment went through a lot of iterations, with multiple lighting passes too.

I utilised paintovers to get a feel for more concepts and different lighting methods.

Texturing the mermaid fin was gross yet super fun!
